Together we can make a difference!

After attending numerous meetings of the Westville Community Police Forum (WCPF) over the last two years, we were approached by the WCPF to put together a newsletter as a tool of communication between the Westville Police and the community.

More awareness of crime and what could be done to bring it down was discussed and CrimeZero was launched on the 16th March 2010. The desire of the team behind CrimeZero is to bring the community and the police together, where the community can play an important role in helping the police to solve crime. A great deal can be learned by attending CPF meetings as well as building co-operation and good relations with police and community. By simply being aware and bringing suspicious incidents to the attention of the police to follow up, can lead to many arrests. It is the intention of the committee to create an uncomfortable environment for the criminal as all work together.

This is a big undertaking, but we believe it is worth developing a safer and happier society as we work together to reduce crime. We have since moved into many other areas by request and we now distribute magazines monthly from Westville, Pinetown, New Germany up to Kloof.

CrimeZero produced a bumper Christmas issue which also included Hillcrest, with a print order of 20 000, proving the desire of the majority of people among the police and community who want to see change for the better. We distributed as far as Hillcrest in the following issue as well but unfortunately due to a lack of business support with advertising we reverted to distributing 15 000 up to Kloof. The magazine relies solely on advertising for its survival and has no other sponsorship in any form either from the CPF, Police or business.

The community have complimented us on the new format that we implemented in May 2011 with a new updated magazine look. We want the readership to see CrimeZero as their community magazine and have an active role, not to see it merely a “police” publication.
