SECRETS OF THE GPS REVEALED!
The latest gadget, it seems every person has to have, is a GPS module. These, to many people are God sends. My cynicism stems from the apparent casualness to which expensive and potentially dangerous pieces of equipment are treated.
How many owners of GPS’s have their home addresses programmed in? Don’t you know where you live? Surely if self preservation is an instinct you possess, you would not want that information to fall into the wrong hands? A much better idea is to program in a key point close to where you live, such as a shopping mall or petrol station. If you are travelling out of town, I am sure you could find your way back to your driveway once you are in your home suburb. Read the rest of this entry »
Talking About Kids In Cars
Are we putting them in mortal danger?
This is a sensitive as well as a deadly serious issue. It needs to be addressed and you as a reader need to take heed of the advice I put forward.
One day you should take the opportunity, next time you crawl past an accident scene, to have a good look at what a couple of tons of metal does to a human body. I do not mean to gross you out, but it’s a reality, and I’m human too. I’ve got to stand there and pick up the pieces. Literally. The human body is not designed to decelerate from 120km/h to zero in less than a few meters.
I have no idea why, but some of us believe we are a cross between Formula 1 and World Rally drivers and the M-13 is our personal race track. On top of this, every morning coming to work I drive among the parents taking kids to school and what I see shakes me to the core. Read the rest of this entry »
Who me? Dishonest?
Insurance Fraud is becoming rife and must be taken seriously ….
Two facts about human beings: We are selfish, and we are dishonest. Who reading this can say they have never, ever been one or both of these things? I’m not saying that for a large proportion of our lives we are not actually very honest and quite generous, it just happens that at particular times in our lives we shed the skin of humanity and a something else is revealed.
I don’t really want to harp on about a “Culture” of dishonesty, mainly because I do not have degrees in Sociology. But, there is a causal link between the young child who denies taking the last sweet to the adult who swears blind that he was not talking on his cell phone when he hit that pedestrian. Is the instinct of denial of culpability simply a survival reflex, or is it, (now let’s be really honest) taught and encouraged?
Somehow there seems to be the attitude that “beating the system” no matter how nefariously appears quite justified in people’s minds, like they have a right to cheat or lie even though they know it is wrong, let alone sometimes downright criminal. Here we can cover a wide area of battlefield from not putting licence plates on your car to ducking the taxman.
The newspaper ran a very pertinent article in their Personal Finance section. It covered Insurance Fraud and the consequences of inflating insurance claims. Insurance companies, despite what many would believe, are tightening their belts and investigating more claims that appear inflated and/or fraudulent. The article goes on to explain the repercussions of being found out in your false or inflated claim. Read the rest of this entry »

HOW TO REACT IN AN ARMED ROBBERY
Hints during an Armed Robbery:
1. Do not Resist -You will only be putting lives at risk
2. Remain Calm - If you panic try to regulate your breathing by taking long slow deliberate breaths
3. Speak Slowly - Do not raise your voice to the robbers otherwise they will lose self-control
4. Make no sudden movements – Tell the robber what you are doing eg. “I am going to take my keys out of my pocket now” – and then do it slowly
5. Do not set off the siren – Activate the alarm only if it can be done secretly. Many armed robbers have turned violent (with hostages taken) because the siren panics the robbers.
6. Do not look the robber directly in the face – The robber may think that you are memorizing his features for later identification and he could then shoot you.
7. Give the robbers time to leave – Do not try to prevent their Get-Away – This could turn violent resulting in death / injury.
8. Do not try to be a hero – The only heros are dead heros.

Driving Without Number Plates Is At Your Risk!
Trying to avoid speed traps doesn’t make sense when you could lose your car!

So it was the end of the year and you bought a new car. Just as I would, you licensed it on 21 day paper plates so that according to your “logbook”, in January, you have a 2010 model vehicle. All fair and well. Unfortunately, there seems to be a growing trend of disobedience to the law, where vehicle owners have allowed these plates to expire and have not properly registered the vehicle. Or, vehicles have been licensed, but the owner just hasn’t put the disc or number plates on. Read the rest of this entry »
